History
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) is a statutory body responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector of the British Virgin Islands. The TRC advises the Minister of Communications and Works on telecommunications policies internationally and regionally and protects the interests of users of telecommunications services. A brief description of what regulates the TRC and some of the publications and appointments are listed below.
- The Telecommunications Act, 2006 was adopted June 2006 and published October 2006
- The first CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) was appointed October 2006
- The first Board of the TRC was appointed January 2007
- The TRC was transferred from the Ministry of Communications and Works April 2007
- The Telecommunications Policy was published April 2007
- New Licenses were issued to Cable and Wireless, CCT and BVI Cable TV May-June 2007
- Digicel was issued a license December 2007
- TRC’s second Board was appointed June 2008
- The TRC’s staffing of administration occurred May-June 2008
